This past year, we’ve started exploring Charlotte more since we can’t travel as much as we would like. We had heard about Latta Plantation Nature Center and Preserve plenty of times but never checked it out. So on a crisp Sunday afternoon we drove to Latta Plantation, which is located about 15 minutes from uptown Charlotte.
When you get there, you noticed several different spots to park, we parked close to the Carolina Raptor Center (which is currently closed for visitors due to COVID).

We stayed around Catabwa loop where we were able to access to Buzzard and Wash Rock.

The rocks are located by the Mountain Island Lake front and are fun to climb on and to take selfies with. We wondered how crowded it is during warmer days and if people actually swim right there. It seems tempting!

Additionally, the Buzzard Rock has a bench and a lake viewing area to hang out at. We also noticed some educational signs to get to know the park and what animals live here.

The Catabwa trail turns to the Shady Loop at some point, which adds another 1.5 miles to your walk. The Shady Trail is a nice loop that ends back at the parking lot. On the trail you may encounter some horses, and their droppings, so make sure to watch your step.

Lastly, we noticed a little Gazebo and we couldn’t resist to take some selfies before heading home.

This is the perfect place to spend an afternoon outdoors with your fur and real babies. We can’t wait to come back in the summer!
